Chief JMPD warns pedestrians not to walk on freeways

JOBURG – 'Freeways are prohibited to pedestrians.'

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) Chief has warned pedestrians not to walk on the freeways as it poses a danger.

This is according to Ask the Chief JMPD Facebook page.

The post follows an incident in which informal recyclers were turned back and stopped from using the freeway along M1 south at the St Andrews on-ramp. The statement on the Ask the Chief JMPD Facebook page said pedestrians were prohibited from using the freeways.

Law enforcement officers are intensifying the Operation Buya Mthetho, meaning ‘bring back the law’, which was launched last year.

Law enforcement agencies around the city are united to fight against lawlessness. The operation is a multi-departmental operation aimed at bringing the rule of law back to the city.
