Realogile Secondary is on the up

ALEXANDRA – Realogile's quantum leap threatens Kwa Bhekilanga's lead.

KwaBhekilanga Secondary School’s perennial lead is under threat from Realogile which once dominated the position.

This from its resurgence in the past three years with a big leap of 9.44 per cent coming from the outgoing 2018 class. It attained 91 per cent against its nemesis’ 92.34 following a 2.96 per cent leap from its 2017 89.58 per cent.

Principal Matthews Chosi attributed the improvement which started from 50 to 60 per cent in 2016 and to 81 per cent in 2017 saying, “Hard work, discipline and commitment always pay out.

“Our objective is to achieve a balance in quality and quantity to help reduce the number of Alex’s youth from joining the multitudes of the jobless soon after matric.” This said in reference to the 138 who passed from a total of 155 who wrote the exams. Sixty-four per cent of them achieving university entry, 47 diploma qualifications and 27 pass certificates.

He said the school was heading to the 100 per cent mark which none of the five township schools has ever achieved. “Logic dictates that it’s achievable if we maintain the trend. If others can achieve it why can’t we if also given requisite support?” Chosi also urged for prejudicial judgment against township schools to end and attributed the achievement to MEC Panyaza Lesufi’s tireless leadership. ” We should reward and not disappoint him for ensuring support to schools despite limitations in government.”

Also, he commended district director Mnyamezeli Ndevu for introducing unique and energy-sapping work ethics. “We at first begrudged his 6am meetings with the principals but, as in any changing situation, we adjusted to his leadership style and are now benefitting from the rewards of his effort.” He anticipated more hard work from the teachers and learners. “They have realised that anything is possible with effort and dedication.”

Chosi pleaded with the department to improve resources for schools so that learners who progressed from Grade 11 despite failing, would also benefit. “Most of the 55 in the 2018 class passed the four subjects they wrote and will pass the remaining three subjects they will write in June to obtain full certificates if supported well. We will meanwhile, provide them with books and integrate them in weekend and holiday classes.”
