Gauteng Community Safety MEC urges residents to report crime

ALEXANDRA – Nkosi-Malobane lauds the police in their efforts to fight crime in Alexandra.

 

The MEC in the Department of Community Safety Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane has appealed to the community to revive the culture of Ubumpimpi (informers) and good parenting, and urged men to become father figures.

She also urged the community to report criminal activities.Nkosi-Malobane was addressing residents and members of the Alexandra Community Policing Forum who attended the Alexandra Anti-Crime Summit held at Sankopano Community Centre. The summit was organised by the forum in partnership with Coca-Cola, and faith-based and community organisations.

The MEC said, “I think it is important for me to indicate that our station [Alex] has seen a major decline in certain crimes but we still have some stubborn crimes like murder, street robbery and common assaults.”

She thanked the local police for their efforts in reducing crime in the area though they have limited vehicles to use for visible policing. “Cases like arson have dropped by 50 per cent while attempted murder dropped by 27.9 per cent and residential burglary is at 0 per cent while business burglary has dropped by 1.8 per cent and theft of motor vehicles is at 50 per cent.”

Nkosi-Malobane also warned police officers not to collude with criminals.
