Joy as 8th Avenue resident receives new wheelchair just in time for Christmas

ALEXANDRA – Resident Lesego Khumalo describes how the gift of a wheelchair from a local non-profit organisation was a special Christmas present for her husband, John.

Lesego Khumalo (43), the wife of 45-year-old resident John Khumalo who lives with a disability, could not hold back her tears when a local non-profit organisation, Infinity Kracht Foundation, knocked on their door with a new wheelchair.

According to Lesego, who lives with her husband on 8th Avenue in Alexandra, they have tried everything to get John a wheelchair after he suffered a stroke in 2010.

“My husband suffered a stroke in 2010 due to high blood pressure and from that day, he couldn’t walk or do anything by himself. We tried to get help from different government institutions and organisations who promised to buy us a wheelchair but none of them fulfilled that promise,” said Lesego.

Speaking to the Alex News after the wheelchair handover, Lefa Buthelezi, one of the founding members of the organisation appealed to community members to lend a helping hand to those in need.

“Christmas time is a season of giving and sharing. Infinity Kracht Foundation would like to call upon those who have something to share and lend a helping hand to those who don’t have during this time of the year. When we learned about John’s situation, we decided to do something to make this Christmas special for him and his family,” Buthelezi said.

Lesego thanked the foundation for what she described as a special Christmas present for John and the family.
