Police urge community members to be on alert after a group of men attacked a number of families

ALEXANDRA – Police said they were hot on the heels of five gang members who terrorise the community.

 

The South African Police Service has launched a manhunt after numerous families on 11th Avenue in Alexandra were attacked and robbed of their valuables by a group of five men at around 3am on 1 December.

According to Alexandra police spokesperson Captain Stephen Malatjie, in one of the houses that were invaded and robbed by the group, a couple suffered minor shot injuries during the incident. He said the man was trying to protect his wife from their attackers.

Malatjie said the police were called and they managed to track down the perpetrators in one of the houses, however, they managed to escape. He said stolen goods were recovered in the same house.

Malatjie has urged the community to vigilant at all time and ensure that their alarms are working properly.
