Two suspects get beaten by community after robbing school pupils

ALEXANDRA – Robbers of learners jailed for seven years.

 

A learner who was robbed by two criminals was instrumental in their arrest.

The accused, Tshepiso Chilopo (30) and Thabo Mabaso (38) of Alexandra were each sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court for the robbery which occurred at about midday on 9 October.

The victim, an 18-year-old boy and his 17-year-old female schoolmate noticed the two following them while walking home from school on 16th Avenue. They increased their pace and the girl gave the boy her cell phone but the two accused caught up with them. They grabbed the girl by her skirt and pointed a gun at the boy while demanding their cell phones, which they took. The robbers then ran away and the boy pursued them while shouting for help from the public who responded. They caught the two who were beaten severely until police called to the scene rescued them.

They spent 21 days at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital being treated before appearing in court. They were sentenced after admitting to the crime. The stolen items were recovered and handed back to the victims.
