The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) and the South African Police Service’s (SAPS) Buya Mthetho operation continued to yield good results in the streets of Alexandra.
This was after another operation was held by the JMPD in collaboration with the SAPS Johannesburg North Cluster on 29 October 2018. The operation that lasted for eight hours saw a total number of wanted suspects arrested.
According to Alexandra Police Station spokesperson, Stephen Malatjie, the operation was a great success. “The Buya Mthetho operation held last week was a great success. This was a joint operation between the JMPD, City Power, health inspectors and security companies.
“A number of suspects were detained for cases such as murder, rape, bus robbery, car hijackings and possession of stolen goods. Illegal electricity connections were cut off, illegal shebeens raided and fines issued to some motorists,” Malatjie said.
Malatjie said the police will intensify these types of operations throughout Gauteng in order to eradicate crime in the province during this festive season.
