DA disappointed with court decision after a man accused of rape found not guilty

ALEXANDRA– The Democratic Alliance says it will continue giving social support to the rape victim and her family.

Members of the Democratic Alliance (DA) came in their numbers to picket outside the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on 11 October to give support to the family of a seven-year-old rape victim.

This was after a 25-year-old man who was accused of raping the girl appeared in court for the second time this year and was found not guilty. The protest was led by the Mayor of Tshwane and DA’s Gauteng premier candidate for next year’s elections Solly Msimanga and Safiyia Stanfley the deputy chairperson of the party’s Women’s Network who promised that her party would give their full support to the victim’s family.

Speaking outside the court after the court judgment a disappointed leader of the Women’s Network Stanfley told Alex News that her party would continue giving support to the victim and her family despite the outcome of the case.

“Our spirit is very down because this is an outcome we were not expecting. We really hoped that justice will prevail and the perpetrator will be found guilty however they were other circumstances we needed to take into consideration,” she said.

“We will, however, continue giving support to the family with whatever they need whether social work or other things so that they are able to move on after this incident.”
