Walking for peace in troubled Alex

ALEXANDRA -– The Maimane Alex Development Foundation and its partners, Infinity Krach Foundation and Rand Water, will host the #Walk4Peace this Saturday.

The Maimane Alex Development Foundation, which organises and hosts the famous annual Map Games in the iconic Mother of all Townships, will present an offshoot of the recent games in the form of a 7,4 km colour walk.

The #Walk4Peace Colour Walk will be held on 27 October, starting at 6am from the precinct of the Madala Hostel at the Rotary Grounds.

The route will pass several points of interest and importance including the newly opened Alex Heritage Museum that was built where former President Nelson Mandela first lived when he moved to Johannesburg.

It will finish at the Rotary Grounds where participants will be taken through their paces in aerobics.

The walk is themed #Walk4peace due to the ongoing violence that has gripped Alexandra and other African communities across the country.

“We are at the same time claiming back our streets [from criminal elements] while having fun,” said a statement from the foundation.

The walk is a collaborative effort between the foundation, Infinity Krach Foundation and Rand Water.
