Rea Vaya public transport service soon to hit Alex, residents asked to be patient

ALEXANDRA – Alexandrians to join others on Rea Vaya system.

Alexandrians will soon join other city residents benefiting from the safe, comfortable and predictable Rea Vaya public transport service to and from work.

This pending the completion in April or May next year of the ongoing road and transport network development of the public bus service. It links Joburg CBD with Sandton through the township via Old Pretoria Road. It will loop around Alex from Vincent Tshabalala Road onto Lenin Drive, Florence Mophosho Avenue and back onto Old Pretoria Road en route to and from Sandton on the return leg.

Local councillor Shadrack Mkhonto asked residents to be patient with the temporary inconvenience of the construction saying it was to their long-term benefit. “Key stakeholders including the taxi industry with a stake, have been consulted to ensure commuters arrive on time at work and back home,” Mkhonto said.

“It includes road widening, drop off and pick up stations. The buses will be expected to run at scheduled short intervals during peak morning and evening times and longer periods in-between.”
