Guard charged with murder

ALEXANDRA – Members of the public apprehended and assaulted the guard before police arrived on the scene.

A former security guard charged with murder was remanded in custody by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court pending further investigation.

The accused, who was on guard duty at a supermarket, allegedly shot a male victim to death at midday on 16 September at a Midrand shopping centre. Members of the public apprehended and assaulted him before police arrived and arrested him. An ambulance took him to Tembisa Hospital for treatment under police guard.

The victim saw the accused with alcohol and asked if he was drinking on duty. This seemingly infuriated the accused who went away but returned minutes later and accused the victim of snitching on him. He then pulled the victim out of the shop and as he resisted, the accused pulled out his licenced gun and shot the victim three times on the jaw, chest and back killing him on the scene. He was apprehended as he tried to flee and his firearm was confiscated. He was then taken to hospital for treatment.
