Alexandra township’s housing saga is playing out at the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court between two families from a 14th Avenue home.
One is a family occupying the main house and the other, is a man occupying an outside room. Neither of them is said to be the legitimate owners of the bonded house but another family, who was apparently hounded out in 2014 by occupants of the main house.

Since then, tenants occupying six outside rooms at the home have allegedly been hounded out by the family leaving only the man who has been resisting the threats of evictions allegedly with the intention to let out all the rooms for rent as a moneymaking scheme.
The feud between the families, who are said not to be on speaking terms, is now in court for a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm brought about by a member of the family against the man.
This, following an altercation between the two in January at the Alexandra Police Station resulting in the family member sustaining a broken limb. Police officers intervened and the injured man was taken to hospital for treatment and later, laid the charge.

The other was arrested and granted bail. He laid a counter-charge for assault claiming that he was acting in self-defence against provocation and threats when he fell on his adversary resulting in the injury. The cases were heard in court on 10 September and postponed for further hearing on 27 September.
The matter has also been brought to the attention of area councillor Werner Smith and the local of the city council’s housing department.
