ANC oils its 2019 election machinery

ALEXANDRA – MPL Tsotetsi satisfied with progress in prep for 2019 polls.

The African National Congress party is consolidating its mechanisms and energy for ‘certain victory’ in the 2019 national general elections which are only months away.

This was said by the party’s member for the Gauteng provincial legislature for Alex, Godfrey Tsotetsi who vouched that they will reverse the loss the party suffered to coalitions of opponents who now govern four of the country’s major metros. “We learnt from our mistakes and the punishment meted on us when the electorate withheld their votes.

“As leaders of society, we have renewed commitment to our mandate to consolidate on the social, political and economic gains of liberating society.”

This he said, is ongoing through programmes that restore internal discipline against tendencies of disintegrating the party and its programmes which he said are the glue that enabled the party to victory in the 1994 democratic elections.

Tsotetsi said they have oiled their election structures which are not yet in full swing at branch, zone, region and provincial levels. “They conduct door-to-door campaigns to encourage all eligible voters to acquire identity documents, attend public meetings on developments towards the elections and to participate in the Thuma Mina service delivery campaigns of the presidency.

“The public is responding well to these programmes, contributes to strategies to improve service delivery and the completion of projects and programmes, deal with crime and, improve the quality of life by achieving the objective of transformation.”

He added that contestation for political power was central to democracy and they will wrestle it back to ensure control and allocation of municipal resources to speed up outstanding developments and, root out corruption to stop unnecessary protests over poor and delayed service delivery. “We learnt lessons and gained experience from past mistakes which will not be repeated when we re-govern the major cities and countrywide after the polls.”

He alleged the current administrations of coalitions are inexperienced and wasting time and resources while experimenting. “They are failing to fulfil promises to revamp hostels, deal with housing backlog, fix potholes and high bills for services and, the public is aware of the lack of change they were promised.”

He urged for increased public participation in dealing with rampant crime including in schools. “We have set up forums to deal with it, in all sectors and, urge for the revival of block and street committees, moral regeneration to enhance discipline, reinforce principles of uBuntu to encourage respect in families and among neighbours as examples for our children to emulate.”
