Man’s crimes weigh him down

ALEX - Man hands himself over to the police.

An Alex man’s conscience about his life of crime seems to have gotten the better of him forcing him to hand himself over to the police.

Petrus Moyo (30) was remanded in custody by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court pending further investigation into a house robbery he and others had committed at a pastor’s home in Morningside.

The court heard that he went to the Sandton Police Station on 25 June and reported the robbery at the home on 3 February. He and others had stolen household items and caused damage to the property amounting to R150 000.

The police retrieved the case docket and he was arrested after the confession including revelations of his trail of crime which started in 2002 when he was 14 years old and still in primary school. He was first imprisoned for four months for a 2003 robbery followed by a crime-related dismissal at work in 2006, a five-year sentence for housebreaking in 2011, common robbery case in 2016 which was withdrawn and other robbery and theft cases this year which may still be under investigation.
