Alex fitness guru bares her soul for budding entrepreneurs

JOBURG -– Alex fitness guru advises budding social entrepreneurs to love what they do and strive to achieve their dreams.

“If you want to excel in life in whatever you do, you will have to cut off the negative costs to allow yourself to flow with the positive ones that will build you in your journey of life.”

These were the powerful words delivered by Alex fitness guru, Mapule Ndhlovu, also known as Queen Fitness when she was roped in to motivate aspiring social entrepreneurs at the Red Bull Amaphiko Connect boot camp programme in Braamfontein’s Tshimologong Precinct.

The two-day programme was designed to provide budding social entrepreneurs with the inspiration, mentorship, practical skills and tools they need to enable them and their businesses to reach the next level of development.

Addressing the aspirant entrepreneurs, Ndhlovu, who is a fitness trainer at Sandton Virgin Active gym, said she lived and breathed wellness. “It’s one of those circumstances in my life where I did not choose my career but my career chose me.”

Ndlovu so loved exercise that she would wake up at 4am and run to work in Sandton. In her own words ‘the goal was bigger than the obstacle’ as people kept telling her it was not safe for her to run to work from Alex. “Here I am today, that sacrifice paid off.

“I am saying to you if you have a dream, live it with all your determination and ensure that the goal remains much bigger than obstacles.”

Ndhlovu is a personal trainer to the who’s who in Joburg and was spotted by members of the Institute of Fitness professionals when they visited a local township gym.

“Imagine yourself in this crowd, an investor comes along and spots you and takes you by the hand. You’re most likely to be set up for life. Love what you do and do it with perfection and investors will be bound to notice you.”

Her advice to up-and-coming entrepreneurs was that they should cut off all negative people and friends. “I had to cut out all my friends who kept inviting me to drinking sprees and telling me I will not cut the business deals I require if don’t drink alcohol. Gossipers are the second lot to be trimmed down as well as you seek to align yourself with people that will steer you to success.”

Besides being a fitness guru, Ndhlovu is also an adidas brand ambassador, was one of the first black female fitness trainers to be appointed at the prestigious Virgin Active Alice Lane Classic Gym and in 2016 she became Africa’s first Women’s Health Nextfit Star.
