Female fraudster in court

ALEXANDRA – Female fraudster awaits further hearing

An alleged female fraudster will on 17 August reappear before Magistrate Renier Boshoff at Alexandra Magistrates’ Court for further hearing.

The accused, who is a bookkeeper, handed herself over to the police on 7 June and was granted bail. She appeared before Magistrate Renier Boshoff on two counts of fraud. One of the victims is her relative by marriage and is in car dealership business. The victim asked her in 2016 to assist with her books after tax returns reflected a Sars repayment which was higher than normal. Instead, the revised returns, purportedly from Sars, came back claiming an even higher amount of R187 000.

The victim checked with Sars which denied processing the new returns. The matter was reported for investigation which revealed that the accused was also involved in another scam involving a client with a tender to supply food to army bases in the North-West Province. The army detected fraud amounting to

R285 000 for a claim which was paid for supplies which were not delivered to one of the bases.

It was found that the accused had faked the invoice. In both instances, she pocketed the money.
