Alexandra’s Skeen Primary School is given a facelift with a splash of paint

ALEXANDRA – Children at Skeen Primary School will come back to a brand new-looking school.

The staff of Bayport Financial Services donned their work gear to paint classrooms at Skeen Primary School as part of their Mandela Day service.

The team chose 16 July so that children returning to school two days later would be welcomed by a fresh new look, rather than having their learning time disrupted later in the week.

“In recognition of the contribution Nelson Mandela made, not only to our country but to the world at large, it is imperative that we all play our part in ‘being the legacy’ and we decided to make Skeen skoon [Afrikaans for clean],” said Bayport’s Kholeka Ngubeni-Henderson, a human capital executive.

“We have a branch in Alexandra so it made perfect sense for us to select a school within its boundaries to demonstrate how we exemplify Mandela’s call to action.

“Mandela truly believed that education is paramount to success as individuals, communities, society and South Africa, and as we heed the call to make a difference as Bayport, we are proud of the role we are playing to ensure that Skeen Primary School is truly a place of learning.”
