Adult education specialists Media Works are celebrating Madiba’s legacy this Nelson Mandela Month by giving South African adults the chance to complete their matric through their online adult matric programme, Matric Works.
This year marks 100 years since the birth of Nelson Mandela and global activities, events and campaigns are calling us to #BeTheLegacy in honour of Mandela’s life’s work and commitment to upholding justice and human rights for all South Africans.

Nelson Mandela said, “The power of education extends beyond the development of skills we need for economic success. It can contribute to nation-building and reconciliation.”
Mandela believed in the transformative power of education, not only for an individual, but also for families, communities and our country as a whole. In light of this, Media Works have decided to take Madiba’s legacy forward by giving 15 South Africans, who have not been able to complete their matric, the chance to do so free of charge.
Whether they need one or all six subjects to complete their matric, each competition winner will have access to the subjects of their choice via Matric Works, which allows adult out-of-school learners to study towards their nationally-recognised Amended Senior Certificate (ASC) (an equivalent to the Grade 12 National Senior Certificate) examinations online. The total value of the competition is over R100 000.

The #Matric4Madiba competition launched on 8 June and will run until 31 July. The competition is open to South African adults who are 21 years old and over, who have not yet completed their Matric.
To enter the competition, applicants need to make sure they ‘like’ the Matric Works Facebook page. From there, they need to post a public comment to the page, or comment on a post, using the hashtag #Matric4Madiba, commenting on why they think that getting a matric is important and why it’s something that they would like to achieve.

Winners will be announced in August 2018 and each competition winner will have access to the study material for three years. This will give learners three chances to write the ASC examinations, which take place annually between May and July.
