62-year-old man charged with murder and attempted murder

ALEXANDRA – Murder accused awaits DPP's decision on case jurisdiction.

An elderly man charged with murder and attempted murder awaits the Directorate of Public Prosecution’s decision on where the case will be heard.

Michal Takoulas (62) was remanded in custody by Alex Magistrates’ Court for the murder early this year of his landlord and the attempted murder of a woman at the landlord’s plot in Midrand.

Magistrate Renier Boshoff assisted by state prosecutor Lufuno Maphiri charged him with the crime which occurred after the accused and the landlord’s relationship soured resulting in an altercation, and the landlord ordering the accused to leave the place. Instead, the accused got into his vehicle and rammed it into the victim against a fence causing him serious injuries and his subsequent death. The woman who was also nearby sustained injuries. It emerged in court that she also had laid a charge, still to be heard, against Takoulas for rape, claiming that she was afraid to do so earlier out of fear.
