Two brothers-in-crime

ALEXANDRA – Robber of scrap metal dealer awaits sentence.

A man charged with aggravated robbery, committed with a brother who is at large, was remanded in custody until 31 May by the Alex Magistrates’ Court pending his bail hearing.

Mpho Langa, who admitted to the incident, claiming to have only threatened the victim who is known to him, told the court that his brother, Mfundo, who had a toy gun, took money from the victim.

The two robbed the victim, a scrap metal dealer of R2 400. He was paid for the sale of metal at 9am on 3 April at Maningi Scrap Metal on Old Pretoria Road in Wynberg.

As the victim was leaving the premises, the two ordered him to come to them but he walked away. They shouted at him to stop which he did after one of the brothers pointed a gun at him. When they demanded the money, he tried to flee but they held on to him and took the cash from his pocket.

Security guards who witnessed the scuffle from a nearby building approached to try and help the victim but were forced to retreat in haste when the accused turned the gun on them. They disappeared after the robbery and Langa was later arrested after the victim pointed him out to the police.
