Two robbers get 28 years in prison each

JEPPE – Hard work and diligent investigations lead to two good sentences.

Two police officers have been praised for catching two suspects to get a good conviction.

Sergeant Malusi Tefu and Constable Rofhiwa Mugagadeli of the Jeppe Police Station have been complimented for ensuring that Lubabalo Khumalo and Zinja Zwane were convicted for a robbery.

The two apparently worked tirelessly to ensure that Khumalo (35) and Zwane (28) were sentenced to 28 years each in prison.

They held Sibusiso Shingange (35) up at gunpoint and took his Samsung tablet while he buying groceries at George Goch Train Station on Concession Street in Belgravia on 2 December 2016. The tablet was valued at R3 200 at the time.

“They ran away after the robbery but the victim and his friend chased after them and managed to apprehend Khumalo,” said Jeppe Police Station spokesperson, Captain Richard Munyayi.

“The police were called and officers Tefu and Mugagadeli attended to the complaint and went to the settlement to search for Zwane. They managed to arrest him and he was then taken to Jeppe Police Station and charged with armed robbery.”
