Four gunmen nabbed by Johannesburg K9 officers

DOORNFONTEIN – Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects might have been on their way to commit a robbery.

 

Following a tip-off from the community, four men remain behind bars after their arrest on a parking lot of a KFC food outlet in Doornfontein.

It appears that the four suspects, who were driving a white VW Polo GTI, were planning to commit a crime.

Johannesburg Flying Squad police spokesperson, Sergeant Desmond Subramoney, told North Eastern Tribune that two firearms were recovered from the suspects.

He said a preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects might have been on their way to commit a robbery.

“We are not clear what their motive was but two unlicensed firearms with ammunition were recovered in the car. We suspect that they were on their way to commit a robbery in Cyrildene,” said Subramoney.

Police recovered one Glock firearm and one CZ75 firearm with their serial numbers filed-off including live ammunition.

The four suspects were immediately arrested and Subramoney said they will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court soon.

“They are facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, and furthermore, the vehicle that they were travelling in is also part of the investigation,” concluded Subramoney.
