Joburg pensioners reminded to apply for rates rebate before new General Valuation kicks in

JOBURG – A reminder before the 2018 General Valuation kicks in.

Property owners over the age of 60 have until the end of June to apply for rebates from the City of Johannesburg before the new General Valuation Roll on 1 July kicks in.

The City’s group finance spokesperson, Kgamanyane Maphologela, explained that pensioners can, however, apply before September for the rates paid from July to be reversed.

Pensioners can apply at their nearest City centre for property rebates.

Pensioners will still be able to apply for rebates after that, but likely without a promise of reversals.

Pensioners must be 60 years of age or older, own property and personally occupy the property. The property value must not exceed R2,5 million. The rebate is also only applicable for one property should the applicant own more than one property.
