UPDATE: Alex FM offline due to staff strike

ALEXANDRA – No news, no DJs from Alex FM as staff members are on strike.

Disgruntled Alex FM staff have shut down the community radio station.

Employees downed tools at 9am on Friday 8 June, demanding that the entire board resign with immediate effect.

They accuse board members, especially the chairperson Pamella Mallela and treasurer Bongani Mandita, of looting money and fabricating a financial audit report which was recently presented at a postponed annual general meeting a few weeks ago.

According to Sia Leita an employee of the station, no DJ or journalists will go on air until the board members hand in their resignation. “No staff member will do their duties until board members resign with immediate effect. We want the finances of the station to be handled by the station management, not the treasurer of the board.”

The station manager and board were unavailable for comment at this point. The story will be updated as more information becomes available.
