Three months jail for threat

ALEXANDRA – Midrand vagabond sentenced for assault with a threat.

A man of no fixed abode was sentenced to three months imprisonment by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court for assault by threat.

Themba Skhosana (42) was found guilty of the offence which occurred at midday on 19 May at a robot on New Road in Midrand.

He came across a male pedestrian waiting for the robot to turn green and, without uttering a word, he pulled out a large knife from under an overcoat and threatened the victim with it who, in fear, ran into the road without checking for traffic. A large vehicle bumped into him inflicting superficial injuries which didn’t require hospitalisation. The accused seemingly walked away but was stopped and brought back to the scene by police who appeared at the scene immediately after the incident.

Skhosana was arrested and admitted to the offence.

Magistrate Renier Boshoff ruled against Skhosana’s Legal Aid lawyer’s plea for a suspended sentence, arguing that someone had been injured in the incident.
