Housebreakers get trespass sentence

ALEXANDRA – Lucky sentence for thieving trespassers.

Two men who were apprehended when found with items stolen during a housebreaking were lucky to receive a four-month sentence each for trespassing by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court.

They were initially arrested for housebreaking with intent to steal. Accused Max Ngwenyama (38) and Mxondisi Siziba (42) were sentenced on 29 May by Magistrate Renier Boshoff and assisted by state prosecutor Lufuno Maphiri after they admitted guilt.

They removed part of the home’s precast wall and forced a window open to gain entry into a Buccleuch home at 7.30am on 27 May while the homeowner was at work in Roodepoort.

ADT security guards who were alerted to the crime, apprehended them in the home while in possession of a microwave oven, toaster and pots. The homeowner was called and confirmed ownership of the items.

Maphiri said the alternative sentence was prompted by their admission, that all stolen items were recovered and the victim’s acceptance of the sentence.
