Kleinbooi Baloyi (24) was sentenced on 18 May by Magistrate Renier Boshoff, assisted by state prosecutor Lufuno Maphiri, for stabbing a victim at about 8.30pm on 9 December in 18th Avenue. The victim later died of stab wounds to the chest at a clinic.

The court heard that the deceased, who was known to the accused, met him with a friend and seemingly teased them as gay by saying ‘hello bomama’ (hello ladies).

The accused took offence and the two insulted each other resulting in a scuffle which was separated by the accused’s uncle. They persisted insulting each other while apart and the accused ran to his home. He returned shortly after and without uttering a word, he plunged a knife into the deceased’s chest twice causing him to fall. The accused ran away and an ambulance called to the scene took the victim to the clinic where he later died. The accused went into hiding but was found the next day and arrested.
