Hijacker pleads guilty

ALEXANDRA – Hijacker's 18-year sentence reduced by half.

Alex resident Kamogelo Lekganyane (27) who was sentenced by Alex Magistrates’ Court to nine years’ imprisonment each for robbery and hijacking had a lucky break when he pleaded guilty and the sentence was ordered by Magistrate Renier Boshoff to run concurrently.

He committed the crimes with three accomplices who are still at large. The suspects hijacked a woman motorist at about 7pm on 9 September in Woodmead. They forced her at gunpoint out of her Mercedes-Benz which they drove away with her handbag and contents including a cell phone. The vehicle was later found abandoned but without her personal items. Lekganyane was arrested after his fingerprints were found in the vehicle.
