Bad blood ends in charge

ALEXANDRA – Man insults woman old enough to be his granny.

 

A 31-year-old Alex man who pleaded guilty to crimen injuria was sentenced to 30 days imprisonment or a fine of R100 by Alex Magistrates’ Court.

He was charged with insulting the 78-year-old victim, old enough to be his grandmother, using unprintable words referring to her private parts. Mpho Manamela was arrested on 7 March, just days after the incident.

The two are said to have been at loggerheads for some time and often quarrelled. Manamela blamed the victim for causing the tiff allegedly after repeatedly piling dirt next to his room. It apparently became too much after she allegedly poured dirty water in front of the door of his room, resulting in the insult, with him seemingly telling her to get her head examined.

The victim accepted the verdict begrudgingly after Magistrate Renier Boshoff urged her to soften her heart and learn to forgive. This after she said she would only forgive him from her grave.
