TRAFFIC ALERT: Road closures expected in Newtown ahead of #SaftuStrike

JOBURG – Johannesburg Metro Police Department closes roads ahead of SAFTU strike.

The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) has advised motorist to avoid entering the Joburg CBD as thousands of workers are anticipated to take part in the South African Federation of Trade Unions (SAFTU) nationwide strike.

Wayne Minnaar, metro police spokesperson and superintendent, said a number of roads around the Newtown Precinct will be closed to make way for the protesters.

Roads to be closed include Miriam Makeba Street, Lillian Ngoyi Street, Anderson Street, Pixley Ka Seme Street, Pritchard Street, Rissik Street, De Korte Street, Simmonds Street.

Metro police spokesperson, Edna Mamonyane said officers had been deployed to monitor the protest and divert traffic between 10 am and 2 pm.
