Mbopha’s alleged killer expected back in court

JOBURG – The man accused of killing prominent Alex businessman expected back in court on 4 May.

The man accused of killing Alex businessman, Mbopha Mashigo is expected to appear in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on 4 May.

Jonas Ramokola is accused of killing the businessman on New Year’s Eve with a single deadly shot. He was arrested in January with the assistance of community members when a resident identified the accused after police distributed flyers with Mashigo’s photo.

During his last appearance in March, his legal representative withdrew from the case.

Addressing the court, the attorney said this was due to a conflict of interest. The attorney went on to say the accused had not paid him for his services, adding that this was another reason for him withdrawing from the case.

State prosecutor, Keshini Reddy requested a postponement to allow for further investigations. Magistrate Syta Prinsloo granted the postponement. Mashigo remains in custody.
