EFF’s green light to new Jozi@Work move

ALEXANDRA – EFF lauds permanent jobs for Jozi@Work employees.

Despite its tenuous pact with the DA in running the City of Joburg, the EFF welcomed the City’s announcement to employ

1 400 former employees of the Jozi@Work programme as permanent staff members.

In a statement, the EFF lauded the development as a milestone and attributed it to its councillors implementing the party’s 2016 Municipal Election Manifesto in which it was stated that job casualisation and exploitation would be eradicated. It said its councillors had tabled, defended and ensured the motion was adopted by the city council.

The party added that the victory would result in the employees’ salaries increasing from R2 200 to R6 000 per month. “We salute our employees for courageously fighting the ANC and DA’s anti-black neo-liberal policies. The outcome due to their tireless dedication should be understood within the context of reversing the Egoli 2000 neo-liberal framework introduced by the captured ANC and celebrated by the racist DA.”

It further stated that the party would continue to represent the needs of the poor and marginalised by applying pressure to ensure the City fast-tracked service delivery. The party said its next priority was to back a motion for Metro police officers to receive a R1 000 danger allowance which was apparently previously rejected by the ANC and the DA.
