Autumn season health and fitness tips

South Africa is in the middle of the Autumn season. How can you stay fit and healthy during this season?

The onset of Autumn season is highlighted by shorter days with plant leaves changing colour. With such environmental and atmospheric changes, human bodies also begin to adjust accordingly. Below are some basic tips you can observe to stay fit and healthy during this Autumn season.

Vitamin D supplement

As human beings, we get most of our vitamin D from the sun, so when there’s less daylight, your body produces less vitamin D – which could leave you with less than the recommended intake. If you find you are not going outdoors alot, a vitamin D supplement can help boost your requirements.

Moisturise your skin

Autumn comes with the cooling down of temperatures and cold weather can make your skin dry. You should therefore ensure your skin is properly hydrated by using some skincare products.

Food

Autumn season brings its own types of food especially fresh green food which is very healthy. During Autumn, try out some broccoli, cabbage, eggplant, kale, pumpkin, squash, root vegetables and dark leafy greens.

Home environment

Spring cleaning should be high on your priority list. It’s a new season of change and you are more likely to spend time indoors, so why not change your living environment. Clean out your closet, organise your living spaces, and rid yourself of things you don’t need.

Immune system

You can provide some great support to your immune system and prevent unnecessary sicknesses by drinking plenty of water, washing your hands often and possibly taking a flu jab at your nearest clinic or pharmacy.

Exercise

The temptation to slow down on outdoor exercise is very high especially with the dropping of temperatures. Walking around the yard, staircase climbing if you live in a home with staircases, indoor stretching and push ups on a mat are all alternatives you can consider to exercise and stay fit.

With the tips above, Autumn should turn out to be a good season.
