Alex police officers were busy fighting crime during the week ending 28 January. In one week, 16 priority crimes and 42 other crimes were reported, with a total of 44 suspects arrested.
According to the spokesperson for Alex Police Station, Captain Allie Kodisang the priority crimes were as follows:
- 2 for murder
- 1 for rape
- 3 for theft of motor vehicle
- 3 for residential burglary
- 1 for business burglary
- 1 for vehicle hijacking
- 1 for truck robbery
- 1 for business robbery
- 3 for robbery with firearm.
Other reported crimes were as follows:
- 1 for attempted murder
- 6 for assault with intention to cause grievous bodily harm
- 12 for common assault
- 2 for common robbery
- 5 for theft from motor vehicle
- 3 for malicious damage to property
- 12 for general theft
- 1 for fraud.
Suspects arrested were as follows:
- 1 for attempted murder
- 1 for rape
- 5 for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
- 6 for common assault
- 1 for robbery
- 1 for shoplifting
- 1 for malicious damage to property
- 21 drug-related offences
- 3 for possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle
- 1 for theft
- 2 for illegal possession of firearm
- 1 for burglary.
