Shop owner shot in the head in Alex

ALEXANDRA – Police appeal for help in tracking shop owner's robber.

Two foreign nationals operating a shop in Extension 7, were shot during the night of 16 February, one died on the way to a hospital.

Confirming the incident, police spokesperson Captain Allie Kodisang said police are investigating. He said there were eight armed suspects at the intersection of Laduma and Playoff streets.

“The suspects stormed into the shop near the Busy Tavern Corner and robbed it of cellphones, airtime vouchers and cigarettes which they loaded into backpacks,” Kodisang said. He added that an altercation ensued, resulting in shots being fired where one victim was shot in the head and the other several times in the body.

Transport was arranged and was ferrying the victims to an undisclosed hospital when an ambulance was dispatched to the scene and intercepted the bakkie to render first aid. Unfortunately, one victim was certified dead by paramedics. The one who was shot in the head is undergoing treatment.

Kodisang said police investigations found that the tavern owner was also shot and injured in the leg when he went outside to check on the shooting.
Kodisang appealed for assistance from the tavern’s patrons about the suspects’ identities.
