Police spokesperson Captain Allie Kodisang said the incident occurred at 11pm on 25 January when the driver of a Chevrolet utility bakkie stopped at the intersection of Florence Mophosho and 6th avenues to look for directions on his phone.
One suspect appeared on the driver’s side and allegedly grabbed the vehicle’s keys from the ignition through a slightly open window. Three other suspects came from the passenger side and got into the vehicle. The one with the keys joined them from the driver’s side sandwiching the victim. They allegedly covered his face with a towel and drove around with him before stopping in Phase Two where the victim was moved to the back of the vehicle which had a canopy.

Kodisang said, “The victim noticed that all the liquor had been offloaded. When he tried to get out of the vehicle the suspects shoved him back and guarded him. They again drove around with him. At some point, they abandoned the bakkie and bundled him into another vehicle which they drove to Cradlestone Mall where he was dropped off.”
The bakkie was later recovered and taken to a police pound.
