Man in custody after murder

ALEXANDRA – Malawian man charged with murdering his cousin.

 

A Malawian national who allegedly murdered his cousin in Blue Hills, Midrand was remanded in custody at the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on 17 January.

Magistrate Renier Boshoff postponed the case to 28 February to acquire the services of a Malawian interpreter.

The 31-year-old suspect visited the victim and his cousin in Blue Hills at 6.30pm on 4 December. While the victim prepared food, the suspect picked up a stump of wood and without saying a word, allegedly hit the victim over the head repeatedly.

One of the cousins intervened but was threatened by the suspect. The cousin then sought the neighbours’ assistance. They restrained the suspect by tying up his legs and hands.

The victim was certified dead on the scene and his body taken to a government mortuary.
