Wits targets Alex youth

ALEXANDRA – Wits, Bank Seta to train Alex youth.

 

Unemployed Alex youth could find themselves employed if they took advantage of a business training course run by Wits University and sponsored by Bank Sector Education and Training Authority.

The course targets 520 applicants citywide with 130 to 150 from Alex. The course coordinator in Alex, Shadrack Mkhonto urged prospective applicants to contact him urgently and said the opportunity would benefit graduates struggling with employment.

” It’s a timely intervention for the growing number of desperate youths at risk of gravitating into crime and other anti-social activities,” Mkhonto said, adding that the three-level business sector course would provide skills for employment and prepare participants as future leaders in business. “It only requires their commitment, dedication and time.”

The levels are a future leaders development course for those under 35 years of age with matric certificate; new leaders development course also for the under 35s with FET (Further Education and Training) and university qualifications, and a contemporary leaders management course for persons under 40 years of age with university and other qualifications.

There is a minimum 50 per cent pass mark and 100 per cent attendance required for the courses. Successful participants will receive certificates of competency. The Alex group will be trained in the township to avoid costs and will receive meals during sessions.
