Wanted man hands himself in

ALEXANDRA – Suspected company thief asks police to pick him up.

 

A suspect who has denied syphoning off money from his employer’s account soon after returning from the festive season break was remanded in custody by Alexandra Magistrates’ Court pending further investigations for theft.

He is due back in court on 8 February.

The 28-year-old suspect got to his Sandton-based employer on 3 January and allegedly told a workmate that he was resigning. He then went behind a counter, claiming he was going to draft his resignation letter.

It is claimed that in the process, he took a speed point payment machine and left the premises. He returned later the same day and was apparently seen on CCTV footage returning the machine. This after allegedly making transfers amounting to R600 000 into an unspecified account. Management detected and stopped the transfers and informed police.

When he heard that he was wanted, the suspect contacted the investigating officer on 12 January and asked to be picked up at the Randburg taxi rank where he was arrested but denied the charge.
