ALEXANDRA – Guarded school and shop burgled in December

 

A supermarket and a school in Alex were reportedly burgled in December last year.

Police spokesperson Captain Allie Kodisang said between 6pm on 25 December and 8.30am the following morning, a Usave supermarket on 1st Street in Wynberg was broken into. A guard on day duty claimed to have knocked off and handed over to a counterpart after ensuring everything was in order.

The following morning, the shop manager found several items missing. The second guard’s testimony wasn’t specified. The missing items were 10 Nivea roll-on bottles of deodorant for men, 15 Nivea roll-on bottles of deodorant for women and eight tubs of Vaseline lotion for men all valued at R980.

Kodisang said the other investigation was of a burglary which occurred at Minerva Secondary School between guard duty shifts from 6pm on 28 December to 6am the following day.

A guard who returned for duty in the morning patrolled the area and found grade 11 and 12 classrooms broken into. Blackboards valued at R2 000 were missing and the broken doors and others damages were estimated at R5 000.
