An Alex man will face charges of attempted murder and assault after luring his pregnant ex-girlfriend and her current boyfriend from the boyfriend’s Soweto home.
According to police spokesperson Captain Allie Kodisang, the incident occurred at 5.30 pm on 31 December on 3rd Avenue in Alex. The suspect phoned his ex-girlfriend and asked her to come and sort out an issue regarding her vehicle. Her boyfriend drove her there in his vehicle. On arrival, she and the suspect argued and he allegedly tried to strangle her. She managed to escape and ran back to her boyfriend who had remained in his vehicle.

The suspect, who had a gun with him, followed her and allegedly dragged the lover out of the vehicle. While they fought, the suspect was joined by his brothers who allegedly assaulted the boyfriend. The woman was shot in the thigh. Police officers who were called to the scene arrested and later released the boyfriend while the suspect drove off in the victim’s vehicle. The vehicle was later recovered by the police in Marlboro.
