Images of Mbopa Mashigo’s alleged killer released

ALEXANDRA – CCTV footage showing the alleged killer of businessman Mbopha Mashigo, has emerged and police are confident that it will assist in catching the man.

Alex police have released CCTV footage of the alleged killer of local businessman Mbopha Mashigo who was gunned down on New Year’s Day and appealed to residents to assist in identifying the man.

Although the media was not allowed access to the footage until investigations were completed, the still images of the video show a man wearing a blue shirt, jeans and sneakers, and holding unknown items.

The images have been placed on the noticeboard of the Alex Police Station for residents to look at and assist in identifying the suspect.

“So far we have not received any information on this case and we urge the residents to take a look at the photos and see whether they can identify the suspect,” police spokesperson, Captain Allie Kodisang said.

He said the man was considered dangerous and that residents should not try and apprehend him but pass information about him to the police.

“We plead with anyone that might see him not to approach him as he may be armed and dangerous.”

If anyone sees the man or might have information on him they can contact their nearest police station, the Crimestop hotline or the investigating officer handling the case, Detective Nathi Dlamini.

Mbopha is said to have been killed by a single bullet at his shop on New Year’s Day from an unknown assailant who apparently fired several shots while fleeing the scene.

The motive for the shooting is still unknown and police are investigating a case of murder.
