Parks across Joburg remain clean during festive season

JOHANNESBURG – Enjoy your favourite picnic spots throughout this festive season.

Following a commitment from Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo (JCPZ) to ensure parks and the Johannesburg Zoo remain free of litter, Johannesburg’s favourite picnic spots have been left clean during this festive season.

“With summer blazing, Joburgers opt to spend most of their time outdoors with family and friends. Our themed parks offer some of the best outdoor experiences in the city with long stretches of green lawn, leafy trees, play equipment for the kiddies, braai and seating areas,” said acting managing director of JCPZ, Bukelwa Njingolo.

She said the frequent use of parks at this time of the year generally generated more litter than usual, however, City Parks has secured litter-free, clean and friendly parks for residents throughout the festive season.

Njingolo urged residents to dispose of their litter in bins provided and refrain from disposing of hot ash next to trees and on the lawn. “Provision is made for braaing for the safety and well-being of park users and our environment.”

A litter-picking maintenance plan has been put in place and forms part of Executive Mayor of Johannesburg, Herman Mashaba’s call to action in the citywide A Re Sebetseng clean-up campaign. “JCPZ’S litter-picking maintenance schedules across the city will ensure that those of us who will be staying in for the holidays enjoy clean, litter-free and friendly parks.”
