Hospitals in Edenvale and Alex welcome Christmas babies

JOHANNESBURG – Find out how many Christmas babies were celebrated at local hospitals.

Three babies were born at Masakhane Clinic in Alexandra and 11 more at Edenvale Hospital on the biggest day of the Christian calendar.

Salome Msimanga, the matron at Edenvale Hospital said, “Although babies [born throughout the year] bring joy to the hospital, Christmas babies are extra special because they signify hope.”

Edenvale Hospital saw the highest number of Christmas births this year when compared to previous years. “Last year we had about eight babies born on Christmas, but 2017 saw the highest number of births.”

According to Msimanga, every baby delivered on 25 December was healthy. “The first baby to be delivered was a boy and he came at 3am weighing 3.6 kg. In total, we had three girls and eight boys.”

At Edenvale Hospital, two babies were delivered by c-section while other newborns were delivered naturally.
