Assaults dominated the 128 criminal offences handled by Alex police in the first week of December.
A total of 31 suspects were arrested for common assault, some committed with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm while 27 similar cases were reported for investigation.

Spokesperson for Alex Police Station, Captain Allie Kodisang said the arrests were as follows:
- 17 for common assault
- 14 for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
- 1 for murder
- 1 for attempted murder
- 8 for malicious damage to property
- 2 for common robbery
- 7 for theft
- 4 for shoplifting
- 2 for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition
- 3 for driving under the influence of alcohol
- 3 for drug peddling or use.

Priority cases attended to were as follows:
- 3 for murder
- 1 for rape
- 1 for theft of motor vehicle
- 2 for residential burglary
- 5 house robbery
- 5 for robbery with firearm.
Other crimes were as follows:
- 1 for attempted murder
- 2 for sexual assault
- 6 for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
- 19 for common assault
- 1 for robbery using other form of weapon
- 3 for common robbery
- 4 for theft from motor vehicle
- 7 for malicious damage to property
- 6 for general theft.
