Resident, Zandile Zuma, said the pipes have been blocked for over three months and despite pleading with the council to fix the situation, no help has been sent their way.

Ext 7 residents block the road with tyres.

“We have called the councillor many times, but still nothing has been done. We had no choice but to do this, maybe then he will hear our cries,” Zuma said.

When an Alex News journalist arrived at the scene, he was welcomed by a stench and a pool of human waste on Laduma Road, where there was no way for pedestrians to pass.

“This is what we had to endure for the past three months but today it is worse,” Zuma further said.

There was no way for vehicles that come to and from Marlboro into the township to pass.

Another resident, Lebogang Magagula, said he personally called councillor Tefo Raphadu to update him about the situation (on Thursday) but was told that he (Raphadu) was unavailable and would send someone to assist the residents.

When contacted, Raphadu was not able to be reached as his cellphone rang unanswered.

“It is frustrating because they [councillors] are on Christmas holidays and we do not know how to reach them,” Magagula said.
