Police investigate loan fraud

ALEXANDRA – Man defrauded of thousands through fake loan offer.

 

Alex police are investigating a case of fraud committed under false pretence.

Police spokesperson Captain Allie Kodisang said the victim who lives in Third Street in Wynberg received a call at 8.45 am on 6 November from a person who claimed that he worked for Wynberg Quick Loan Company, offering him a loan of an undisclosed amount.

He was asked to deposit R1 500 towards legal fees into an FNB account under the name Vusi Lusanga, which he did at Pan Africa Mall. He received an SMS confirming receipt of the money.

Later, he received another SMS asking for an additional R1 300 deposit. He made the deposit.

When he was asked for a further R3 500 deposit, he got suspicious and asked for their address. He was given the address 34 Lewis Road, Parkwood. When he went to investigate, he found that the address didn’t exist.
