ICYMI: Jailed for being ‘crazy in love’

ALEXANDRA – Man jailed for lovers' triangle shooting.

Dumisane Kambule (40) from Alex was sentenced to seven years imprisonment by the Alex Magistrates’ Court after he pleaded guilty to robbery and for threatening a victim.

His girlfriend was acquitted and an accomplice was further remanded in custody awaiting trial for the possession of an unlicensed firearm used in the crime. The gun was found in his possession when he was arrested days later.

Kambule, of 16th Avenue, was sentenced for the crime committed at night on 17 September at the home of a rival lover of the girlfriend in Ext 8. The trio went to the home where the woman knocked at the window. When the complainant asked who it was and the girlfriend responded, the accused interjected, fired a shot and asked for the complainant’s cellphone.

The complainant threw the phone out through an opened a window.

The accused fired another shot breaking the window and he took another phone from the inside. This was done, seemingly, with the intention to check for any communication proving a relationship between the woman and the victim.

After they left, the complainant reported to the police leading to the trio’s arrest. The accused admitted responsibility and exonerated the woman leading to her acquittal while the accomplice was further detained awaiting trial for illegal gun possession.
