The Alex Magistrates’ Court denied bail to a 47-year-old suspected child rapist pending further investigation.
Sipho Lengwati, who had a previous conviction for indecent assault of a boy committed 20 years ago, was arrested on 5 November for allegedly sodomising a nine-year-old boy at his Tsutsumani home.
It’s said Lengwati went to the victim’s home on 4 November in the absence of his mother seeking his spectacles. When the boy declined knowledge of them, he accused him and other boys who he claimed had been at his house when the spectacles went missing.
He then took the boy to his place where apparently another boy was present. When the other boy left, the suspect locked the door, pushed the boy onto a bed and raped him. Lengwati held the boy overnight despite knowing that his mother was looking for him.
The following morning the boy told his mother of his ordeal and was taken to a clinic where it was confirmed he had been sodomised leading to Lengwati’s arrest. The victim also revealed being previously sodomised by the suspect but didn’t report the incident.
