ALEXANDRA – Fed up dad sees son off to jail.

A father seemingly gatvol of his drug-addicted son’s ways, got him arrested and sentenced for a second theft incident at their home.

Wyand van der Oosthuizen (29) of River Club, Sandton, was sentenced by the Alex Magistrates’ Court to three years imprisonment. This after Magistrate Renier Boshoff found him guilty of stealing a cellphone, a video machine, a digital camera, clothing and R1 000 in cash from his home.

Van der Westhuizen called his dad from work on 17 October and asked him to rush home, claiming that someone had broken in and stolen from the house. On arrival, the dad found bent burglar bars on a window. He immediately called the police and asked them to arrest his son.

He complained about the son’s drug problem and said this would be his second three-year sentence for theft. The first was after he broke into the house through the roof.

After the judgement, the son requested a moment alone with his dad which was granted, before he was taken to start his sentence.
